To perform some edits on regions, you must first select the regions. You can select one or multiple regions, select regions on different tracks, and quickly select muted regions, overlapped regions, or regions meeting other criteria. Selected regions appear brighter in the Tracks area than unselected regions.

There are two way to select multiple regions in GarageBand: Contiguous regions within a GarageBand track, and across contiguous tracks, can be Drag-Selected. Additionally holding down the ShiftKey while clicking a region will toggle between Selecting and De-selecting the region. Hi all, does anyone know how to select/highlight midi regions or notes in a song on 'Garage Band' and or 'Logic Pro X'? I want to be able to grab parts of the song to be copied and pasted somewhere else. I already know that you have to press command X, command C, or command V; to cut, copy or paste, but I don’t know how to highlight the notes. GarageBand has a great system that allows you to not only create clearly defined sections within your song, but also record and edit exclusively within those sections before putting the whole project together again when you’re done. When you create a new song in GarageBand, you’ll have 8 bars to work with by default.

A. While it's possible to use the standard of Copy and Paste to duplicate a region in GarageBand, the easiest method for duplicating one or more regions is to hold down the OptionKey and then click and drag on the region(s). As the duplicate region(s) appears it can be dragged to other areas within the same track, or dragged into another track of the same type ('Real' region to 'Real' track, and 'Software' region to 'Software' track).

To duplicate more then one region at a time see: Selecting Multiple Regions
